What Makes a Well-Built Cabinet: A Look Inside

From across the room, most vanities look alike. The difference shows up years later, in a humid bathroom, after thousands of openings and closings. Here's what goes into every Davenport cabinet, and why it matters.

Plywood, not particleboard

Many mass-produced vanities are built from particleboard, which can swell and crumble when it gets wet. Our cabinet boxes are built from 3/4-inch domestic maple plywood. Plywood is made from thin layers of real wood, glued with the grain running in alternating directions. That makes it strong, stable, and far better at handling a bathroom's moisture.

A finished interior

The inside of every cabinet box has a UV-cured finish. It's durable, easy to wipe clean, and helps protect the wood from the occasional spill under the sink.

Dovetail drawers

Our drawer boxes are solid maple with dovetail joints, where interlocking "tails" and "pins" lock the corners together. Dovetails are one of the oldest and strongest ways to join wood, and they hold up to heavy, everyday use without loosening.

Soft-close, full-extension glides

Every drawer runs on undermount, full-extension, soft-close glides. Undermount means the hardware is hidden beneath the drawer. Full extension means the drawer pulls all the way out, so you can reach what's in the back. Soft-close means it glides shut quietly, every time.

Built in Wilmington

Every Davenport cabinet is built to order in our Wilmington, North Carolina workshop, by the same team behind Brandon Parrow Cabinetmakers. We stand behind our work with a 1-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.
